Create a Brand that People Love
Isn’t it every business owner’s dream to create a brand that customers love as much as Apple, Nike, or Disney? A brand that has people wanting to camp outside your door for 12 hours before you launch your new product? A brand that inspires social fandom or has customers returning to it, time and time again?
Unfortunately, there’s no magic love potion that will make your audience fall utterly in love with your brand. But, there are ways that you can build a brand that’s totally lovable!
If you think of your brand as a way to create a relationship with your customer, you can break down the different stages you need to think about - from first impressions to the woo-ing stage, to forming that ever-lasting bond. Here are my top 6 tips to help you create a brand that can worm its way into your customers’ hearts and stay there!
6 Ways to Make People Fall in Love with Your Brand
#1. Make a Good First Impression
Like a first date, you want that first impression to be a good one. And, well, looks matter! Your website is the first interaction most people have with a brand, and the appearance and design of your site add to your credibility. So - what is your website saying about your brand on your first date with a new customer?
#2. Build a Connection
Connections start by finding something in common with the other person. Your customers might be attracted to your brands’ looks initially, but they’ll stick around for what you have in common with them - your shared values. Make sure you’re communicating these through your marketing - on your website, on your social channels, and in your marketing emails. This is what will resonate with your ideal audience because they’ll share the same values that you do. Focus on building a genuine connection with your customers and the rest will follow.
#3. Always Deliver On Your Promises
No one loves a boyfriend - or a brand - that promises the world and doesn’t deliver. And as the saying goes - there’s nothing like a woman scorned. The same goes for a scorned customer. A broken brand promise will leave a stink that lingers, and other potential customers will pick up on that waft. So, make sure you always deliver on what you say you’re going to do.
#4. Highlight Your Greatest Assets
That would be you, my dear. You and your story! It can be easy to fall into the sleazy sales trap when it comes to marketing your brand. But, your customers don’t want to be sold 24-7. They want to hear your story - why you do what you do, how what you do will help them, and what it is about your brand that is lovable. Tell a story that captures what your brand can do for them, and you’ll capture your audience, hook, line, and sinker.
#5. Stay Top of Mind
Just like Tinder where the dating pool is oversaturated, so too is your marketplace. There are a lot of other brands out there vying for the attention of your audience, so you need to find a way to stay top of mind with them. Make sure you build systems that allow you to stay consistent so your customers can find you and see you! And work out where in your customer journey you can surprise and delight them.
#6. Don't Be Afraid to Grow
You and your customers will change over time, so make sure your brand grows with them. Understand what's happening in your customers' lives and constantly evolve how you connect with them. Be open to listening to customer feedback - and implementing changes because of it. Show interest in your customers’ lives. Understand how major life events - such as a divorce or moving interstate - might affect their relationship with brands they love. Change with your customers, so that they can continue to change with you.
Attracting a customer based on first impressions isn’t enough these days. You’ll constantly have to be putting your brand out there, trying to attract more and more new customers. But, if you create a brand that people can fall in love with - well, that will keep those customers coming back time and time again and make them want to camp on your doorstep for whatever comes next!
