It's OK to Be Tired
It’s July and we’re halfway through the year.
It’s okay if you find yourself feeling a little drained. I know do.
Between juggling school holidays, a very busy toddler, family birthdays, a demanding workload, and the stress of the ever-increasing cost of living these days, the last few weeks have been a lot. And that’s not even counting the past few months!
So today, I slowed down.
I took my son out for the morning to try a Ninja Warrior obstacle course and play with a friend. I pottered around the kitchen. I created a few pieces of content because I felt inspired. I sat and chatted with a friend who brought her kids over for a visit.
Sometimes we just need to slow down.
We can’t work all the time. Seriously.
We often don’t even recognise the mental and physical toll that our “busyness” has on us, because we’re just so darn busy doing #allofthethings. It’s okay to allow yourself to feel tired. It’s okay to have a break once in a while. The world won’t fall apart. Your emails will still be there tomorrow. Your social media stats won’t tank if you don’t post for a week.
Instead of fighting against the fatigue, embrace it as a signal that it's time to recharge and rejuvenate. Need a little prompt to help you recover your mojo and regain your energy? These are some of my favourite ways to get a little pick-me-up when the brain fog gets too much.
Recovering Your Mojo and Regaining Energy
#1. Celebrate Your Achievements With a Break
I want you to know that we all get tired. It’s okay if it’s your turn. Feeling exhausted shows you did something, so reflect back on what you’ve achieved lately. Make a list of your wins - seeing them written down in front of you will show you just how much you’ve done, and you’ll soon be saying “Oh yea, that’s why I’m so tired”.
After you’ve reflected and listed. It’s time to celebrate those achievements. By giving yourself a break. A little breather from the “busyness”. Whether it’s just an hour or a whole day - do something for you. Something that you find relaxing, or that makes you laugh. I promise the other things can wait!
#2. Get the Music Pumping
Music has a remarkable ability to uplift our spirits and ignite our energy.
So, it’s time to put on your favorite tunes, turn up the volume, sing as loudly as you can, and dance like nobody’s watching. The combination of music, singing, and dancing can be a powerful way to rejuvenate your mind and body because you’ll get your blood pumping; take your mind off work, stress, and worries; and just have fun. I love having a dance party with my kids - we blast fun pop songs and sing and dance around the living room like crazy loons. It’s the best!
#3. Bask in Your Glory
Sometimes, when we're feeling tired, we can start doubting our abilities or questioning our impact. In such moments, revisiting feedback from your clients or customers can be so good for the soul. Let their positive comments and expressions of gratitude remind you of the value you provide and the difference you make in their lives. Their words can reignite your confidence and enthusiasm, helping you push through the fatigue.
#4. Remember Why You’re Doing This
When the exhaustion hits and you start to wonder if you can keep doing this whole “running a small business thing”, take a moment to reflect on the deeper reasons that drive you.
What is the purpose behind your business?
Is it to create a better future for your family, to make a positive impact in your community, or to pursue a passion that brings you joy? Reminding yourself of the "why" behind what you do can give your motivation the sparkle that it needs to get you back up again.
#5. Give Yourself a Little TLC
What fills your cup?
For me, when I feel the fatigue setting in, I know I need a day to myself. I regain my energy by spending time alone. So I might take myself to the movies, or go out for a solo coffee at the beach. Or, I might even just spend the day in bed binging a new series.
Whatever it is that fills your energy levels back up, it’s so important to set aside time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax. You could read a book, practice meditation, spend time in nature, go on a girl’s weekend away, have a date night with your partner, or just make sure you get 8 hours of sleep. Prioritising yourself and your self-care will help you replenish your energy reserves so that you can keep on making an impact and building your business.
#6. Ask for Help and Delegate
Remember, you’re not alone.
I can guarantee that every single business owner has been where you are right now. So when you ask for help, we all come running. Because we get you. And we want you to succeed. Whether it’s in your business or in your personal life, asking for support and delegating tasks can help lighten the load just enough to get your energy pumping again.
Remember, it's okay to be tired—what matters is how you bounce back. Feeling tired is a natural part of life, and it's crucial to acknowledge and accept it. We all experience periods of exhaustion and low energy levels, so when it’s your turn, give yourself permission to take a break. Okay?
