3 Tips to Restore Calm to Your Marketing

I’m not going to lie, right now social media is a weird vibe. Lots of people are questioning whether they want to stay on certain social platforms (myself included), wondering if Facebook is still relevant, or if reels are really the way to go for their business. It’s utter chaos & confusion, and honestly, a lot of stress.

Can you relate?

I’m a bit of a control freak (surprise, surprise), so when my world feels chaotic, I like to turn to things that I have control over. To bring some calm to the chaos.

And old Zuckerberg’s platforms are not one of those things. Instead, I can control my brand, my website, my email marketing, my client work, my customer journey, and how I personally choose to show up online. These things I have complete control over, and these are things I turn my focus to when chaos reigns supreme.

Here are a few tips for things you can focus on when your marketing feels a bit chaotic!

#1. Cohesive Branding

Have you done a brand audit recently? It can be very easy for things to slide into “off-brand” territory when you’re in the daily hustle-and-grind, so take some time to review all of your marketing collateral. Are they all still using your brand colours and fonts? Is your imagery on-brand? Are you using your brand logo or other identifying markers?

A professional, cohesive-looking brand gives your small business authority, it makes your content easy to recognise, and the consistency offers comfort in these times of chaos.

#2. Be Consistent with Your Marketing

If your social media strategy has been thrown for a loop and you’re not sure if you’re coming or going, then now is the time to be consistent with your

spending an hour writing an SEO-friendly blog post

  • reaching out to new complementary business owners to build your referral network

  • following up with past clients to ask about their future work needs

  • creating a new value-packed lead magnet

  • touching base with your email database

  • batch creating your content so you have a content library to fall back on in busy times

  • creating a bank of templates that will do the same

Depending on your current marketing activities, there are heaps of ways that you can still show up without having to rely on socials day-in and day-out. The key is to actually get these things done. Once you’ve decided what you’re going to do, put a marketing meeting in your calendar and make sure you prioritise it. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve when you’re consistent with your marketing. It suddenly won’t seem so overwhelming and daunting.

#3. Get Support & Accountability

When I become a new mum, the best thing I ever did was join a mum’s group. Having other new mums around me telling me their baby was also doing weird and, often, gross things was very comforting. Sometimes, all you need to know is you’re not alone - and the same goes for business.

I’m not saying you need to go join some big mastermind or hire a team to surround yourself with people. It can be as simple as having that 1 business buddy that you catch up with monthly - over coffee or over zoom. It could be a weekly lunch date with other women in business near you. Or it could be people in a co-working space you go to. Whatever works for you, I recommend finding someone who is there to support you, to tell you they are finding social media gross at the moment too, and make you feel less alone in this business journey.

They might provide accountability, a sounding board for your ideas, a listening ear, or even a shoulder to cry on (because this biz-gig has certainly made me cry before). Whatever they offer you - and you offer them - believe me, it will leave you feeling supported, comforted, and more confident in your business and your decisions. In turn, that confidence will shine through in your marketing activities - both on socials and on other platforms. And that confidence? It’s the calm amongst the chaos!

I hope these tips help you to feel less alone yourself. I’m right there with you on being totally over social media right now, and that can be a scary feeling if you’ve invested a lot of your business into these platforms. But all is not lost, there are so many opportunities out there. Just focus on what you can control, and the calm will come!
