I make it no secret that I love Squarespace as a website platform for small business owners. I think offers the perfect mix of ease-of-use, technical smarts and creativity.

There are many benefits to using Squarespace as your website platform (and I’ll admit, a few cons - but I do believe the pros outweigh the cons here), but there are five main reason why I love Squarespace.

It’s so easy to edit - it has a user-freindly backend that is perfect for the not-so-technically-savvy business owners among us
It offers out-of-the-box customisation - Squarespace may be template based, but you can easily create a unique website using the platform’s powerful customisation options (and without the need to know the ins and outs of coding)
It’s mobile from the get-go - it has built-in mobile functionality, so your Squarespace website will be mobile responsive from the beginning. This is a big win for your customer experience and your SEO
It has free marketing tools - from forms and SEO functionality, to social integrations and pop-ups, Squarespace has a heap of free integrated marketing tools that you can use (as well as some paid ones that are extra)
It’s affordable - Squarespace is incredibly budget-friendly considering the platform is a website builder, design tool, a hosting provider and a marketing provider. (Plus, if I create your website, I’ll pass along my Squarespace Circle Member discount to you, making your first year that little bit cheaper)

So Easy to Edit

I want to deep-dive into reason #1 for now. The others are all important, but there’s a little background story to why I love how easy Squarespace makes it for business owners to manage their own websites.

In my years as a business owner (5 and counting), I have created countless websites for small business owners. And I’ve recreated a few too - ones that had been built by other agencies, and that the client didn’t know how to use, how to make changes on, and often, didn’t even have logins to. And when they decided to move their marketing to me? Said agencies pretty much held the website to ransom - “your website is hosted on our own platform, so you can’t take it with you” kind of vibes. It stank!

I think every business owner should feel like they own and manage their own website. I don't think the agency that created it for you should own it or host it on their own platforms to keep you hostage to their services. I don't think it should be so technically convoluted that you wouldn't know how to update your phone number on it, let alone do anything bigger. And I don't think it should cost you an arm and a leg to maintain because you have to go back to a developer each time you want to make a change.

I don’t think those are unreasonable requests, do you?

You, Me & Squarespace

So, that’s really just not how I roll. Or how Squarespace rolls. Which is why it’s my #1 platform of choice when it comes to service-based businesses. Shopify? Perfect for ecommerce, but irrelevant for service-based businesses. Wordpress? In my opinion, too much of a learning curve for biz owners, needs too much maintenance, and too many extras (like plugins). Wix? Too basic. Squarespace? Offers the perfect mix of all of them - it is ridiculously easy to edit, maintain, manage, build and so on. You don't need to know code. You don’t need to add on a million extras to get it to do what you want. You can still sell online if you want to (hello, digital products anyone). You don't have to go back to a developer for every little change. And while you may not own the platform your website is hosted on (i.e. Squarespace - you basically rent that space), you do own all of your content on it.

Then - add me to the mix. When I create a Squarespace website:

✅ ownership is transferred to you as soon as your final bill is paid
✅ you receive 1:1 training with me, as well as a pdf guide and demo videos, as to how your website is set up and how you can make changes yourself
✅ you have full visibility over performance with inbuilt reporting and Google Analytics integrated
✅ and yes, I'm still there to support you if you want me to. But that's the key word to me - WANT. Not NEED!
